How do I book the Contractor Safety Passport courses?
EPIC does not deliver the training but manages the scheme on behalf of the industry.
Courses can be delivered in-company please contact your local provider for further information on costs and availability. A list of approved training providers.
The training courses are also delivered as open public courses EPIC have been notified of the following courses as listed on public courses programme. Please contact the provider direct for further information to book a place.
How much is the training?
The training is provided by external training providers, it is therefore the individual training providers that set the charges for the passport.
How is the scheme enforced and quality assured?
The scheme is policed at site level; you may be refused entry onto site if you are unable to present your passport. The training providers are quality assured by EPIC and SPA, to ensure that standards of delivery are maintained.
How can I check if someone has got a valid passport?
If you want to check if someone has a valid passport or if you have any queries relating to the scheme then please contact EPIC.
What information will I need?
The passport is the property of the individual contractor, if you want to check details you will need to know details of the individual contractor, including name, date of birth and National Insurance Number.
As a contractor will the passport mean I no longer have to sit thought repetitive lengthy inductions?
This is a company decision and may vary from company to company. One of the aims of the scheme was to reduce the amount of time both contractors and industry spent on inductions – it was never planned for the scheme to remove the need for site specific inductions.
Is the passport a measure of competence?
The passport shows that you have attained the required level of knowledge to pass a 2 day health and safety and environmental awareness course or the 1 day renewal course, it does not reflect your competence in your role. You may need to provide additional evidence of this, for example an NVQ in the field in which you work.
When should I renew my passport?
You have 6 months prior to the expiry of your passport and 3 months following the expiry, in which to attend and pass a renewal course; if this period of time lapses then you will be required to complete the initial 2 day course in full again, unless you can provide evidence for exemption for the first core day which would mean you would have to complete the second (industry specific) day. You would need to contact the approved training providers to check availability on courses.
I am interested in becoming an approved training provider to deliver the training; how do I go about this?
