MPQC Managing Contracts Safely in Partnership

MPQC Managing Contracts Safely in Partnership, is a new course developed by MPQC in consultation with Industry stakeholders. The first course was delivered to managers from four of the major quarrying companies and three contractors.

Who is the course intended for?
Managers at sites using contractors to carry out any work, and those contractors

Why is the course required?
The course is part of the Hard Target Initiative and will provide participants with ideas and knowledge that will assist them to improve communications between managers and contractors in the continuing drive to improve site safety. Industry believes the best way to do this is for its managers and contractors to work in partnership from the offset, and this course is designed to promote that approach.

The course is highly interactive.
Key learning points are emphasised through group exercise that teaches participants the MPQC 5 Steps to Management of Contracts.

Learning is supported by a checklist for each of the 5 Steps that participants take away from the course to use to help them apply the learning in the workplace.

Topics covered, include, Planning the work, Contractor selection, Pre-work planning, Practical Contractor management, and Performance review. There will also be time for participants to share their own experiences of managing, or carrying out contract work, so there won’t be a dull moment.

The course members are assessed.
Participants undertake a multiple – choice assessment covering the course content at the end of the course and those successful in the test candidates will be awarded the MPQC Certificate of Achievement.
