Clay Quarries’ Management

Who should attend?
Anyone appointed to manage a clay quarry under Regulation 8 of the Quarries Regulations, 1999.
Aims
To provide delegates with the basic knowledge of safety, health, environmental management issues and of aspects of geotechnics and quarry design to assist them in the discharge of their duties.

• Electricity in the Workplace
• Machinery Safety.
Module 2: Procedures for Design, Safe Working and Inspection of Excavations, Tips and Stockpiles.
• Hazards and Definitions
• Soil Slope Stability
• Rock Slope Stability
• Rockfall Hazard
• Inspections and Record Keeping
• Geotechnical Appraisals and Significant Change
• Site Visit
• Geotechnical Assessments
• Quarry Design
• Excavations and Tips Rules
• Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
 
Number of delegates.
A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 delegates.
 
Duration and delivery.
This is an intensive 3 day course, delivered in modular format over three days, the modules comprising safety health and environmental management, and geotechnical and quarry design aspects for managers, respectively. The course utilises tutorial input, group exercises, DVD, fieldwork. The five assessments include multiple-choice, written exam and practical exam. Delegates successfully completing the course are awarded the MPQC Awarding Body Certificate of Achievement.
